I thought maybe some people would like to see the project that has been driving me insane for way too long.

Kinja'd!!!

It is a ‘71 Camaro and right now it runs and the sheetmetal, except for the hood, is complete though not painted and still suffering some rust in the normal areas around the rear fenders. The interior is gutted but the dash and IP have been reinstalled and the wiring is finally done (YAY!). There is some welding to be done on the floorpan but it’s patching up holes that previous owners made and not fixing rot so it’s not too difficult. After that it’s all about putting the interior together and it should be able to move. Just like a real car! BTW, the wheels, tires and paint were the doing of the previous owner. What stays is TBD.

Now that I’ve shown you mine, let’s see what you’re all working on no matter what its current state!

This wouldn’t have happened if you had overnighted parts from Japan Detroit.

In the meantime, you have a nice Mad Max aesthetic.

Silver Lining! Now I just need to strap somebody to the front of it and it will be complete.

Whether it’s awe some or aw ful varies according to how whatever I’m working on is going. There have been days where I have thought nuking it from orbit was the only solution.

Thanks! It’s been a lot of work since I bought it as an $800 basket-case, but it’s getting close. I’m half tempted just to bolt in a seat and take it around the block just to say I did.

We use milk crates a lot at the shop. Just don’t let the cops notice.

Sure! But I don’t think my wife will like me calling her “Frog”.

Maybe you could call her Frog in another language?

Brilliant! I think “Rana” will work just fine.

Get a different air cleaner.

A kid bought a Cutlass from my dad ages ago. He put a filter like that on it then the carb spat up and roasted the car.

Yeah, I don’t like it either but the car isn’t on the road right now and it does ok for garage purposes since it’s there to keep crap from falling in to the carb. Then I get the fun of finding one that fits under that hood since these cars have very little clearance.

Does it have a high rise intake?

Most of the cheapo open element filters at parts stores will fit. That’s what I have in my Olds because I somehow managed to lose my stock one.

Not really, it’s a regular Edelbrock Performer. Even the Air Gap will not fit under the hoods of these cars. If I remember right a 1” open element will fit but not much more than that. This is why you see so many of these cars with aftermarket cowl induction hoods.
